THE SHORT SUMMARY
- The consulate in Libya was attacked with mortars and rocket-powered grenades on 9/11/2012.
- Obama, Clinton and UN Ambassador called the incident a protest, blamed it on a YouTube video, purchased TV ads in the Middle East apologizing for the video, and spoke publicly (including at the funeral for our Ambassador) about the “protests” that were started by a YouTube video.
- When it became clear that it was NOT a protest, Obama claimed to have said all along that it was an act of terror.
- Questions have come up about why the Ambassador was in Benghazi and why security wasn’t stronger. Some have suggested that Obama, through the Ambassador was running guns to Al-Qaeda. Some have suggested that Obama staged the kidnapping of the Ambassador in order to create an “October Surprise ” where Obama would successfully negotiate the release of the Ambassador in time to win the election.
